Philosophy of NL stables

Nicky Lieberton’s fondness of Spanish horses goes beyond the fairytale looks of long manes and an impressive appearance. “I too often noticed ambitious riders buying the most beautiful horses that then turn out to be too temperamental for them to ride. I like a horse that is suited for all occasions: from refining the advanced dressage movements to a carefree beach or trail ride. The one does not necessarily rule out the other as is proven by the Spanish horses and their temperament. Spanish horses can fulfill the needs of both the ambitious sport riders and the older riders who love going for a relaxed and carefree ride. These horses are blessed with an honest character and pleasant rideability. It’s because they have been at the heart of the Spanish community for centuries, always right by their side even during folk festivals for example. As a result, they are people-oriented and less distracted by nature. You can even work with a young horse without worries. The right feeling is very important to us. Everyone must feel at ease aboard them”, explains Lieberton.

Experience

Experience

The purchase of a horse at NL Stables is an experience that revolves around finding the right person for the specific horse. The Spanish hospitality is brought to Vinkeveen along with the horses. Those looking for a horse here, will notice ample time is taken to ensure the right match. During lunch there is plenty opportunity to review the matching horse. We want to create success stories and build sustainable relations.

Training

Grand Prix rider Rodrigo Laserna is responsible for the training and schooling of the horses. He is supported by stable riders and working students from Campus Real Escuela Torreluna. This allows the horses to get familiar with working with different riders and in various circumstances (such as a competition or a training in the forest or at the beach). Rodrigo has gained worldwide recognition for his expertise on groundwork. A technique of working in hand that has proven to yield positive results for many horses and riders. This gymnastic groundwork is aimed at enhancing the connection, straightness and collection of the horse under saddle. In Rodigro’s view, dressage sport and groundwork are closely linked. He believes that working from the premise of trust on confirming the basis is the key principle. And many horses and riders reap the benefits in consequence.
